How To Protect Yourself from Excessive Blue Light Exposure

Our device screens: tablets, laptops, TVs, cellphones, even light bulbs emit blue spectrum light which can disrupt our circadian rhythms that help the body wake up and wind down to sleep.  Excessive blue light exposure is also suspected to be harmful to our eyes.

Many devices have settings for reducing blue light.  Check the display or screen settings on your device.  Our BB&R consulting physician Tracy Freeman, MD recommends blue light filtering glasses.  To hear all Dr. Freeman’s great sleep advice listen to her in-depth review of healthy sleep essentials HERE.

We recommend adults and children wear blue light filtering lenses while watching tablets and tv, especially in the evening. If you don’t wear glasses, or wear non-prescription readers, you can easily purchase non-prescription glasses with blue-light filters online or at your local drug store.  If you wear prescription glasses you can ask your optometrist about adding this feature to your prescription at your next visit.

Deep, restful sleep is imperative for good health and a stable mood.  Blue light filtering lenses are a simple, and inexpensive tool for living a vibrant well-rested life.
