Here are some of the health benefits of cranberry from Tieroaona Low Dog, MD

Native to North America, cranberries have been cultivated and used by those native to these lands for thousands of years. In 2020, cranberry dietary supplements were among the highest-selling supplements in mainstream and natural channels. Best known for its medicinal use to prevent UTIs, the cranberry also possesses other impressive phytonutrients and constituents.⁣

The cranberry contains high levels of compounds that lend to its healing abilities, including dietary fiber, vitamin C, ellagic acid, and quercetin. However, much of modern research into the benefits of the fruit focus on the exceptionally high concentrations of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, also known as PACs. ⁣

The anthocyanins lend the bright red pigmentation to the cranberry fruit, and the PACs are responsible for its tart flavor. PACs are also the constituents known for their antioxidant, astringent, and anti-inflammatory activity that help protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. The specific type of PACs found in cranberries, A-Type PACs, are not common in other fruits and are attributed to the fruit's ability to prevent bacterial adhesion. ⁣

I simply love when food also serves as natural medicine. Use the link in bio to learn a little more about this familiar little fruit!
